Bolshoi Theater: at the origins of the development of Russian art

The most famous in Russia is the Bolshoi Theater. This place has an amazing story. It is impossible to overestimate the contribution that this institution has brought to the development of Russian art. Everything is wonderful in a big theater - from amazing architecture to the direction in which it works. This is the world's largest theater of opera and ballet, which is put on a par with the famous La Scala.

Time of occurrence

The Bolshoi Theater has two whole creation dates. In March 1776, Peter V. Urusov, who was the provincial prosecutor, enlisting the support of Empress Catherine II, began the construction of the first Moscow theater, which was named Petrovsky in honor of the eponymous square on which it was located. The first Russian theater burned down before its construction was completed. This object was re-erected in the same place, but under the guidance of Medox. As a result, the building was repeatedly burned and rebuilt. Already at that time, the theater began to be called Big.

The history of development

The final design of the building, which has been preserved until now, was designed by renowned architect Beauvais. Above his life from 1821 to 1824 worked Beauvais and Mikhailov. At that time, an eight-column theater, decorated with the famous chariot of Apollo, appeared on the territory of Theater Square. This is a symbol of eternal art, which later became the theater itself.

The building is made in a classic style and is one of the best theater buildings in the world. What is surprising is that he survived many wars, was not subjected to fires and other adversities.

In 1918, the Bolshoi Theater began to be called Academic. In 1921, a decision was made about the need to restore the theater, the main stage of which came almost completely useless. Recovery work lasted for two years. At the same time, the famous curtain with Apollo was replaced by a new one.
After the Great Patriotic War, Academic experienced a new dawn. He continued to be the main theater of Russia. In 1955, the curtain of golden color was erected in it, which for many years remained the main symbol of the theater.

The last reconstruction works were carried out in the Bolshoi in the period from 2002 to 2011.

Distinctive features

The main distinguishing feature of the Bolshoi Academic Theater is the five-tiered auditorium, which is famous not only for its size and architectural delights, but also for its excellent acoustics. The decoration of the hall used stucco, gilt, columns and multi-tiered crystal chandelier. The height of the room, which is considered the main theater, is 21 meters. It accommodates 2153 people.

Bolshoi Theater today

To date, the Bolshoi Theater continues to be central in Russia. This is a cult place, the scene of which saw both Russian and world stars of opera and ballet. It serves the best figures of culture and art - conductors, actors, ballet companies and opera singers.
