Fili Park: a green oasis in the heart of Moscow

Fili Park, located in the west of Moscow, is considered one of the largest and most beautiful parks in the city. Today this park is a favorite vacation spot for residents of Moscow and guests of the capital, but its history goes back more than a hundred years.

History of Fili Park

Fili Park was created at the beginning of the 20th century on the site of the former estate of the merchant M.I. Raevsky. Since 1906, the property became the property of the banker M.I. Goldenberg, who made significant efforts to turn this place into a real park. The banker ordered a project from the famous landscape architect Leonardo Marconi and began to actively improve the territory.

However, in 1917 the Revolution and the Civil War threatened the existence of the park. Military barracks and warehouses were placed on its territory, and some buildings were destroyed. Nevertheless, thanks to the efforts of the Parisian architect A. Francois, the park was restored and even expanded.

In the period after the Second World War, Fili Park became one of the favorite places for Moscow residents for walking and outdoor recreation. In 1980, events were held here as part of the Olympic Games, and several sports facilities were installed in the park, which are still used by athletes.

Description of Fili Park

Today, Fili Park covers an area of about 300 hectares and consists of several zones with different natural environments and architectural monuments. Its main part – central – located between the streets of Kutuzovsky Prospekt and Filippovsky Lane. There is a lake and the Filevka River, as well as numerous attractions for children and adults.
