Undeservedly forgotten architectural sights of Moscow

Undeservedly forgotten architectural sights of Moscow

Moscow has a huge number of architectural monuments. They are talked about, written in guidebooks, indicated on maps. But not all attractions are so hyped. There are a lot of interesting objects that are unfamiliar even to some native Muscovites.

On the streets of Moscow, in the industrial zone and on the outskirts of the capital, there are many buildings that impress with their original shape and fascinating history. But only art historians and those who live near them know that they exist.

Vishnyakovsky Lane. "House of three eras"

House of Three Ages

The building looks completely ordinary from the outside. In the people, such houses are traditionally called "Stalin" houses. But it is not as simple as it seems. It is enough to take a closer look to understand that each of the three floors is decorated in a certain style. And this is not at all an architect's idea or a designer's whim. Everything is much more banal. This building was erected in different eras. The first three-storey block was built in the 18th century. Initially, it was a manor, which was built for the merchant V.A. Lucatina. In 1910, a new neoclassical floor was designed. Already during the Soviet era, three levels were completed. It was in 1930 and in 1980. Since the house has been constantly growing, its facade looks different. This will become noticeable if you look at the balconies that are located on the side.

2 Grizodubova Street. House-sail

Sail house

There used to be an airfield runway here. And then a house of an unusual shape was built on it. The shape of this multi-storey building is unusual. It is called differently: palette, wave, drop, sail. The building was erected in a cascade, as new buildings had already been erected here before it. This unique house was designed by a whole team of architects. It was planned to create the longest structure in all of Europe. But life makes its own adjustments to everything.

This house is a true admiration for the special skill of engineers and architects. The changes made to the project, which were provided for during the construction of this building, had a positive effect on its appearance. But at the same time, the task of design engineers has become much more complicated. They had to work very hard. It was necessary to strengthen the entire structure well and bring the necessary communications. But these efforts were noticed. In 2008, this building was able to receive the "House of the Year" award.

Vozdvizhenka 16. Arseniy Morozov's mansion

This house is unique. Its appearance combines elements of modernity, eclecticism and amazing stylization of an impressive Moorish style in an unusual way. This house at the end of the 19th century was created by the architect Viktor Mazyrin. An unusual object used to be popular in the capital because of its rather strange appearance. This building was built by order of the representative of the famous dynasty Arseny Morozov. After returning from Spain, he just got inspired to create his own house, which would be similar to the Pena Palace, which is located in Portugal. That's why he started building it.

The mansion is incredibly beautiful. Even today it is a bright spot and stands out against the background of other buildings. Moorish style is whimsically combined with unusual columns, cornices and stucco. The spectacle is truly breathtaking. But at the time of Arseny Morozov, no one appreciated him. But today everything has changed. This is a real pearl of Moscow architecture. Today, receptions of the Russian government are held in this building.

The architecture of the capital is really impressive. Many interesting buildings have survived to this day. Not all of them are so famous. Many of them have been forgotten. But this does not prevent them from being a real decoration of the city. We talked only about the most striking, in our opinion, sights. In fact, there are many more. And all of them are worthy of our attention.
