Tverskoy district of Moscow: history and modernity

A large trade route passed through Tverskaya Street at that time. Tver road in the XIV century, like many others, was timbered. It was paved with a stone in the 17th century. In the 16th century, the famous Tverskaya-Yamskaya settlement emerged on the site of the modern historical center. This happened during the reign of Boris Godunov.
History of
In the XVI century, the Tverskoy district of Moscow included not only the settlement, but also an outpost. It was from there sent carts in the direction of Tver, Smolensk. At the beginning of the last century, a railway station was built at this place, which is still functioning. It was originally intended to send freight trains. We are talking about the Belarusian station.
In the 17th century, luxurious boyar chambers appeared on the territory of the modern Tver district. Houses Dolgorukikh, Trubetskoy, Demidovs and the famous palace of Matthew Gagarin.
The famous Tverskaya Square was built in 1790 in front of the house of the famous Moscow Governor-General Chernyshev. The house itself was designed by Kazakov MF in 1782. In Soviet times, it was the location of the famous Moscow City Council, and these days it became the basis for the Moscow City Hall. In the neighboring building at Tverskaya 14, the famous Eliseevsky shop was located.

The main distinctive features of the Tver district of the capital, of course, are its famous monuments. The most recognizable of them are the monument to Alexander S. Pushkin and the founder of Moscow, Yuri Dolgoruky.

Tverskaya is considered to be the main street of the capital. Its length lasts from Manezhnaya to Triumfalnaya Square and continues to Tverskaya-Yamskaya, named after the settlement located here once.
