Time of creation

The time of creation of the Kremlin is considered the distant year 1147. At that time, the first settlement appeared at the place where the Neglinnaya flows into the Moscow River. It was located on the Borovitsky Cape and it was around him that Moscow subsequently grew and expanded. In 1147, the famous Prince Yuri Dolgoruky gave a feast here. In 1156, a fortress was established in this area by decree of the same prince. That it is considered the first prototype of the modern Kremlin.

History of

In 1337 a large fire occurred in Moscow that completely destroyed the wooden walls enclosing the Kremlin and part of its buildings. They were quickly erected, but burned down again in 1354. It was at that moment that a decision was made to enclose the Kremlin with stone walls, which not only would not be destroyed during the next fire, but would also be able to protect the inhabitants of the city from enemy attacks. At that time the capital was white-stone.

The modern appearance of the Kremlin was formed back in 1485. Ivan III had a hand in this. In the restructuring of the walls, which were built from red brick, and not limestone, Italian architects took part. In the same year, the first Kremlin tower was erected. It is about the Taynitskaya Tower, built by the project of Anton Fryazin. The tower had secret passages to the river and a reliable well, which for a long time could supply water to the defenders of the fortress. In 1491, the famous Spasskaya Tower appeared on the territory of the Kremlin and the very well-known clock. They were replaced in 1852 and are still in force.

Stars on the Kremlin towers appeared in 1935, but quickly faded as they were made of stone. The decision to install ruby stars was made in 1937.
