Center for Slavic Writing Slovo

One of the key projects being implemented at VDNKh, – center of Slavic writing «Slovo». After its opening, the guests of the exhibition became able to visit the restored pavilion No. 58 "Agriculture", which currently houses the center. This project is aimed at drawing attention to the peculiarities of the Russian language. The exhibition itself has existed for the third year, and during this time more than 30,000 thousand people have visited it. A visit to the center of Slavic writing will be interesting not only for children, but also for adults.

The center hosts interactive tours and lectures for everyone who wants to learn more about the history of the Cyrillic alphabet, its present and future. Over 1,300 thematic excursions were held in 2020.

The first part of the excursion program tells about the origin and development of writing from antiquity to the present. The second part is about how texts and writing in general are connected with the spiritual, cultural and other spheres of human life. The third part of the exposition tells about the past and future of the main characters of the letter – letters. In the final part, we are talking about the development of oral speech. Each room has a historical timeline – a navigator that allows visitors to better navigate the exhibition.

In addition to all this, the center hosts school excursions and interactive quests for all visitors. The territory also organizes comics and journalism workshops for children and adults. Every year lectures on the history of the Russian language, preparations for the "Total Dictation", literary meetings and many other events are held here.

People visiting the center are very interested in information about Russian dialects and the development of the language in different parts of our country. Everyone can listen to the folklore collected in the northern villages of Russia, and the children are told the preserved horror stories and similar stories, but already connected with the present.

An interesting exhibit of the exhibition is the "Tree of alphabets based on the Cyrillic alphabet". The object especially attracts the attention of visitors and makes them want to take a photo with it. Guests of the center can look at a copy of Ivan Fedorov's printing press and the restored bas-relief galaxy "Gifts of Abundance" above the main entrance, restored from a large number of existing old photographs and drawings.

The center opens its doors to visitors every day of the week, except Monday, from 11:00 to 22:00.
