Flat House and Broken House in Moscow

Flat House and Broken House in Moscow

There are several unusual buildings in the capital that you should definitely see and photograph as a keepsake. They do not overwhelm the imagination with luxurious facades and intricate designs, but they are also unique in their kind, and therefore deserve the attention of a curious guest of the capital with non-banal interests. There is no crowd of noisy tourists here, but so much the better for you. You can enjoy plenty of outlandish optical illusions and arrange a wonderful photo shoot.

Flat house

The Flat House has a more famous twin brother in Odessa (the famous Witch's House) and to the uninitiated it seems like an impossible paradox. If you stand right in front of this house, it seems the most ordinary and unremarkable - the same facade, windows and doors as in all houses. But if you step back a little and look at it from a certain angle, you will see that it is completely flat! Well, just like a plywood set on a film set.

Actually, of course not, the house is not flat. It's just that its side walls are laid out at an angle of more than 60 degrees, due to which, from a certain angle, the building seems completely flat. Go around it from any side, and you will understand what is the secret of such a phenomenon. What guided the architect when he created this project remains a mystery to history. Maybe he wanted to deliberately create an optical illusion to amuse Muscovites. Or maybe it was required by the features of the built-up area. In any case, the building looks very original and unusual. Such photos will become an adornment of your travel album and will surely bring a lot of “likes”.

Where is located: Presnensky Val, 36, st. metro station "Revolution of 1905"

Opening hours: around the clock.

Broken house

Flat House and Broken House in MoscowThe torn house is an equally interesting building in the capital. Initially, this building was valuable as an interesting architectural object, erected in the 19th century. But during the bombing of the Great Patriotic War, a shell landed right in the center of the monument of history and architecture. So the house was divided into two halves. It was not possible to connect them without violating the architectural concept, but the remaining buildings were reconstructed and completely restored to their former appearance. The house looks like the hand of a giant carefully pulled out several fragments right from its central part. Now it is an unusual architectural monument not only of the century before last, but also of the period of the Second World War.

Where is located: st. Mokhovaya, 10

Opening hours: around the clock

By the way, there are two more Round Houses, which are also considered a landmark of the capital. In comparison with modern Western hotels and business centers of simply fantastic configurations, they may seem modest and not at all impressive to a spoiled tourist. But against the backdrop of the most ordinary residential area of Moscow, they look very unusual and exotic: do not forget that all the listed buildings were erected in the past and the century before last.
