Olympic Complex Luzhniki

Olympic Complex Luzhniki

Not only Muscovites, but also various cities of Russia hear about this Olympic complex. All those who are in any way connected with sporting events know about Luzhniki. The colossal football stadium of the Olympic Complex has not hosted championships with the participation of European clubs and famous European teams.

The Luzhniki complex with its main arena for football games, with a magnificent swimming pool, with a golf club, tennis courts, visits to treadmills intended for only athletes, intended primarily for ordinary people. This is the mystery of its high popularity among residents of Moscow and guests of the capital.

History of the creation of the Luzhniki complex

Its construction lasted less than two years. The leadership of the Soviet Union in the winter of 1954 built a complex for the development of Russian sports. The construction plan, unprecedented on such a scale, was predicted in just three months, and the construction of Luzhnikov began in 1955. The solemn opening ceremony took place already in the middle of the summer of 1956. The grandiose sports complex at the beginning of its performance was named the Central Stadium and was dedicated to V.I. Lenin.

Historical information about Luzhniki

During the match, which took place in 1982, when the Russian "Spartak" fought for the UEFA Cup and the Dutch "Haarlem" a terrible tragedy happened. Fans, fans of the games of their favorite players did not like, began to leave for the stadium, not waiting for it to end. In recent matches, the Russians still score the ball into the goal. At this point, the spectators turn back, but slip on the steps, become trapped in the ice and fall. A pandemonium begins, and more than three hundred people die in the resulting stampede. Naturally, this tragedy was kept silent in the Soviet Union.

Almost every year, events of great historical significance take place in the Olympic Complex: sports days, goodwill matches, and other events. Viktor Tsoi presented his last concert program here in 1990.

In the nineties, Luzhniki had a hard time: the complex was privatized and converted into a retail space. Racketeers walked around the market and collected dues from entrepreneurs. This lasted until 2003. During this period, the market was taken outside a large sports complex.

In the spring of 2008, the Luzhniki complex had a chance to host the final match of the league champions. Manchester United fought for the title and Chelsea.
Now the stadium – This is the home arena of the capital's Spartak. It also hosts football matches of the Russian team.
