Telephone History Museum

Museum of the History of the Telephone — a unique project dedicated to the means of communication, which allows obtaining comprehensive information about the features of the development of telephone communications. Unique exhibits are stored here, rich events are held using a variety of formats. The museum is open daily (except Mondays). There are free tours on certain days. It also provides for the sale of reduced tickets (for schoolchildren, students, pensioners).

When was the museum created?

The Museum of the History of the Telephone appeared in November 2010. The place of its opening was the capital office of the telecommunications company Mastertel. The initiator of the creation of the project was its general director V.V. Ezopov, who proposed to put rare telephone sets and accessories on public display.

Today, this institution is considered the largest museum in Europe dedicated to the history of the telephone. It is often visited by residents and guests of Moscow who want to learn interesting facts about the development of the communication system, see original exhibits and take part in educational events.

Exhibits and programs

The museum exhibits more than 2,500 pieces of telephone equipment manufactured in Russia, the USSR and foreign countries at the end of the 19th and the middle of the 20th centuries. The presented devices were purchased from individuals, in antique shops, at auctions, etc. The museum collection is constantly updated with new copies.

Among the most interesting exhibits:

  • Bell's first phone;
  • Apparatus of Alexandra Feodorovna, wife of Nicholas II;
  • the legendary telephone from the battleship Potemkin; 
  • Ericsson and others' first communications

The museum regularly hosts diverse excursions, interactive lectures, master classes, and press conferences. The interactive part of the program allows visitors to talk on old telephones, feel like a signalman, etc. Events are provided in foreign languages ​​(English, French).

Very close are the Patriarch's Ponds, Bulgakov's house, Mayakovskaya metro station. It is worth knowing that in Russia there is also a second similar museum located in St. Petersburg.

The attraction is located between the Mayakovskaya metro stations; and "Barrikadnaya". Leaving Mayakovskaya, you will need to reach the odd side of Bolshaya Sadovaya. From the metro station "Barrikadnaya" should go to st. Barrikadnaya, then turn left onto the street. Sadovo-Kudrinskaya.
