Monument to the conquerors of space in Moscow

Monument "To the Conquerors of Space" was installed on November 4, 1964. This is one of the most important historical and cultural objects in Moscow, which "tells" about the achievements of Soviet citizens in the exploration of outer space, about the flight of Yuri Gagarin, the emergence of new technologies and opportunities for the future. The structure was built of titanium according to the project of architects Alexander Kolchin, Mikhail Barshch. Its height is 107 meters, and its shape resembles a trace left after the launch of a spaceship.

The unique design of the monument to the Conquerors of Space

Why is it worth coming to the Ostankinsky district of Moscow? First of all, to see the great cultural heritage site. The monument reminds us of the achievements of Soviet cosmonautics, as well as of how much unknown is still hidden among the stars and other planets. Everyone who has ever been to VDNKh could not take their eyes off this amazing monument. It is located at the end of the pedestrian alley of astronauts.

An interesting fact is that the decision to implement this architectural project was made after the successful launch of Sputnik-1. Initially, the monument should be called "The People-Creator". However, during the construction process in the 1960s, scientists managed to make many more discoveries. Lyuli began to fly into space, and a monument was erected in honor of the achievements of astronautics, as the leading direction in the USSR. 107-meter structure at an angle of 77 degrees. A rocket with a "long plume" striving upwards. Everyone, looking at this monument, sees something different. The metal structure is finished with titanium panels (the decision was made by Korolev).

Few people know, but there are high reliefs at the base of the monument. It depicts everyone who participated in the first stage of the conquest of space. In the central part there is a poem by Nikolai Gribachev. It immortalized the successes of the Soviet people in the exploration of outer space. We also see excerpts from TASS messages, where respect for the work of our scientists, engineers and first cosmonauts is noticeable.

Be sure to visit the Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics at VDNKh, get closer to the monument to the Conquerors of Space, and learn something new about how this area developed in the twentieth century. The monument did not go unnoticed by creative personalities. For example, he got into the frames of clips of such famous musical groups as PetShop Boys and Deep Forest.
