Botanical Garden of Moscow State University

The capital of Russia is famous for its sights, which amaze not only the inhabitants of the country, but also foreign guests. Among them – botanical garden "Aptekarsky garden", belonging to the Faculty of Biology of Moscow State University.

If a person wants to have a quiet and comfortable rest, then this attraction is ideal. It's nice to breathe fresh air, walk, enjoy nature.

History

The Botanical Garden was founded by Peter I in 1706 as a nursery for rare medicinal plants. Foreign specialists from Europe were attracted to manage the garden. Scientists taught students, made medicines.

Over the past 300 years, the garden has undergone many changes, including reconstruction after a fire. Then the "Apothecary Garden" was only partially restored due to lack of funds in the royal treasury.

Collections of the Apothecary Garden

In the botanical garden, the main compositions are available to visitors on an ongoing basis. Exhibitions are held as various crops bloom.

Main plant varieties shown for ticket purchasers:

1.    Conifers – the exposition is planted on a hilly area. Collected plants from the Northern Hemisphere of the Earth. 
2.    Arboretum – in the very center of the botanical garden there are more than 350 species of shrubs and trees. Some plants are over 300 years old. There is even a larch planted by Peter I.  
3.    Ferns – specimens were brought from different parts of the world. 
4.    Medicinal Plant Garden – more than 150 herbs used in traditional medicine are located in the garden. Some of them are listed in the Red Book. 

Regardless of the time of year, even in winter, the Apothecary City invites new clients. Here, even in late autumn, you can visit the flower festival, and in winter – wander around the greenhouses, look at the blooming orchid. 

Where is the Apothecary Garden 

The Botanical Garden is open to the public at any time of the year from 10 am to 8 pm. On weekends there are guided tours for children.

The Apothecary Garden is located at the Faculty of Biology of Moscow State University, at Prospekt Mira 26. Tickets are purchased at the box office. You can get acquainted with the prices on the official website, as prices are constantly changing depending on the time of year, the site visited.
