“The lights of the capital are so beckoning!” Is a popular expression that you most likely used often. Indeed, Moscow is amazing, inconceivable and beautiful at night, with full illumination. Avot, have you ever wondered where it all came from, who invented such a spectacular lighting system and what did the capital look like when electricity was replaced with oil lamps? You can learn about the history of the lamp business in Moscow and the modern street and home lighting devices in the capital from the expositions of this unusual museum.

In 1980, it was exactly 250 years since the day the first lantern came on in Moscow. In honor of this prosaic at the same time significant event, an exhibition was opened, dedicated to Moscow lighting and the evolution of lighting devices in general. The venue was the boyars' chambers in the estate of Miloslavskys in Zamoskorechye. The exhibition was such a huge success that the exposition decided not to disassemble and soon made the residence of Miloslavskiy a new museum called “Moscow Lights”.

What to do here:

To begin to admire street lamps of all possible types and models, from kerosene and oil to electric and LED. They are built right at the entrance to the square in front of the museum. Next, the guide will tell about the history of the development of lighting in Moscow, show what the difference between the lighting from the splinter, kerosene lamp and hand flashlight. In a separate room there are various models of household lighting, there are very interesting and intricate lamps, for example, combined with an electronic clock. On the second floor there is a small souvenir shop.

Feature of the institution: in addition to the rare lighting fixtures, torches and lanterns, here you can familiarize yourself with the control panel of the modern lighting of the capital. Push the levers you will not be allowed. But then, small visitors are allowed to touch everything and press in a separate exhibition hall. The museum has a special attitude to children: within the framework of the institution, the project “LIGHT CHILDHOOD” is functioning, created specifically for children with disabilities.

Also, educational lectures with the use of interactive programs, master classes, contests and children's parties are constantly held here. Just imagine how exciting it would be for boys and girls to make fire with flint and splinters with their own hands, light lanterns from a torch, or paint their own unique canvas with luminous paints.
