Picturesque bridge in Moscow - the history of construction

The picturesque bridge was built to solve the problem of traffic jams in the North-West of the capital. The connection of Marshal Zhukov Avenue with the Moscow Ring Road helped to significantly relieve traffic. But it became impossible to solve the situation by the usual method due to the presence of two difficulties – both banks are protected and the channel should be crossed not across, but along, so that ships can move.

The Moscow Government has announced a competition for the best project. The victory was won by engineers from Omsk, led by Nikolai Shumakov. There was a proposal to connect the arch and the pylon. The roadbed was fixed with the help of guys. The opening date of the bridge is December 27, 2007.

The bridge was named Picturesque. The building is named after the street of the same name.  The bright red arch effectively rises against the backdrop of green foliage, attracting thousands of admiring glances.

Although the locals give the construction another name - "a bridge with a flying saucer". And someone even assures that the ellipsoid was created in the likeness of Luzhkov's cap. There is even an opinion that high-tech networks are hidden under the red shells of the guys.

The ellipsoid is a bright design element that gives it stability and reduces windage. It is possible to climb the capsule with the help of special lifts. It is equipped with a heating system.

Earlier, it was planned to open a restaurant here, but this became impossible due to the lack of a sewer system. After that, the idea of creating a registry office appeared. The upper and lower elements began to be decorated for the task. But the opening of a new marriage registration point did not happen.

Interesting facts

The height of the bridge above the water surface is 30 meters, and the length of the – 1.5 km. And the height of the arch itself – 100 meters. The span reaches 400 meters, which is enough for the passage of water transport.

Span width – 40 meters. There are eight car lanes, two footpaths, a median lane and a safety lane.

The unique building is included in the top 50 most unusual sights of Moscow. In place of the ellipsoid on the arch, an observation deck was planned, but it was never erected. The unique engineering structure has a beautiful view from any angle. This is a favorite photo zone for tourists.

You can get to the sights by metro, ground public transport and car.
