Time of occurrence

The time of the Khamovniki is considered to be the 17th century. It was then that the production of fabrics became widespread. Kadashevskaya and Khamovnaya settlements were located on the territory of modern Khamovnikov. These were the largest suppliers of fabrics not only to the malls, but also for the needs of the royal family and the most eminent representatives of the nobility.

History of

The district is obliged by its name to the ancient word “ham”, meaning linen cloth. Most of the products of the Khamov settlement were spent on the needs of the sovereign of the family. In the settlement, beautiful and expensive home textiles and some articles of clothing were actively produced.

In the middle of the XVII century, the land on the territory of modern Khamovnikov surrendered to a kind of rent. Artisans from all over Russia could rent a plot in the territory of the settlement, for which there was a certain amount of weaving production, which was given to the royal chambers.

The production of fabrics on the territory of Khamovnikov continued in the XVIII century. To its middle, the weaving business began to cause damage and the manufactory formed on the site of the settlement was transferred to private hands. It was headed by Tames, who not only made the manufacture a stable profit-making enterprise, but also significantly expanded the territory of Khamovniki, buying up several large neighboring sites.

The chambers of the Khamovnichesky yard have survived in Moscow to this day. They are the historical heritage of the city. These buildings are located on Lev Tolstoy Street.
