Alexandrovsky Garden: the historic center of the Tver district of Moscow

Alexandrovsky Garden, located in the center of the Tverskoy district of Moscow, is one of the main and favorite tourist attractions. On a large area there is a place for recreation, an excursion into the history of Russia and the opportunity to admire the architectural delights of the XVIII - XIX centuries. The history of the development of the Alexander Garden is original and interesting.

Time of occurrence

The famous Alexander Garden was created in 1812. Its construction was marked by a long-awaited victory in the war with the French troops. Until the 18th century, the Neglinnaya River flowed through the territory of modern steam, which eventually crushed and began to grow over the banks. The authorities of the capital at that time decided to launch it along the bypass channel, and on the territory of the former river gardens were laid out according to the unique design of Beauvais. Initially, the gardens were called the Kremlin, and their construction continued until 1823.

History of

Upper Garden, located from the Resurrection to the Trinity Gate, was created with the participation of Davydov and Petrov. They led extensive work on leveling the terrain and its turf covering. After the landscape was put in order, birch, rowan, linden and other trees were planted in the Upper Garden. The main gates of the Upper Garden with the motifs of the heroic victory in the war of 1812 were designed by architect Pascal.
A little later, the middle and lower gardens were planted, which were renamed Aleksandrovskie in 1856. At that time, their entire territory was surrounded by a low metal fence, in an interesting style. It was light, openwork, not at all like the fences that were installed in those years. It is not known for sure what happened to her afterwards. Perhaps the fence was removed during one of the reconstruction of the gardens. But nowadays it’s not possible to admire it.

The last reconstruction of the gardens was carried out in 2012-2013. At this time, the territory of the famous park was cut down and replaced with new parts of old trees. A rose garden of 750 square meters was set up in the park. At the same time, 2,700 shrubs were replaced. On the territory of the Alexander Garden, new elegant lamps were installed, as a result of which the lighting became much better.
Part of the restoration work was postponed to 2015. Within their framework, asphalt was replaced with more presentable paving slabs in a larger area of the garden. In 2015, the pedestals of monuments and some of their parts were also partially updated. At the same time, it was planned to equip the park with a free wi-fi network, but the timing of this project, which could attract a lot of visitors, was not determined.
